We are looking for passionate new PhD students, Postdocs, and Master students to join the team!

The Lau Lab harnesses the power of statistics and machine learning to uncover the dynamics of infectious disease spread in space and time. We build innovative models and novel algorithms that blend statistical inference, computational models, and ML/AI techniques to inform outbreak response, guide public health decisions, and drive scientific discovery. Our work lives at the crossroads of statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, epidemiology/ecology and evolutionary biology. From phylodynamic models that jointly characterize viral transmission and evolution to interpretable deep learning tools for real-time spatiotemporal forecasting, we tackle complex challenges in epidemic modeling. Based in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Emory University, our lab thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration—within Emory’s world-class School of Public Health and School of Medicine—transforming data into actionable insights for public health.
